1 Billionth Scale Ion Model Of Enterprise-D | NERDESQUE

This Starship Enterprise NCC-1701D of Star Trek was fabricated by Takayuki Hoshino & Shinji Matsui, in one-billionth scale by 30 kV Ga+ focused-ion- beam CVD using phenanthrene gas for the The 47th International Conference on Electron, Ion and Photon Beam Technology and Nanofabrication Bizarre/Beautiful Micrograph Contest back in 2003, which is the equivalent of a couple centuries in internet years, or 49 dog years for people who keep track of things in dog years. The model measures a mere 8.8 micrometers long. (There are 1000 micrometers in 1 millimeter)
(Hits a bong)
Dude, that’s like…really small…

Whatever future species ends up ruling this planet in a million years is going to stumble across this and puzzle at why humans created these. “What purpose could they have for making very small models?” … “Had they found a way to shrink themselves?” It makes me smile to think of the time they’ll waste wondering at the time we waste.

The Power Gap (via DemosTV)

Sounds like Socialist mumbo-jumbo, if you ask me. “Power belongs to the people” … BAH! They wouldn’t know what to do with it. Give ME all the power and I’ll take care of the people. ;)
